MEDIA RELEASE: Melbourne pop/psych/folk lovers DREAMCOAT announce their first single and video ‘Ghost Legs’ from their upcoming self-titled EP due out later in 2015.
Melbourne based band, DREAMCOAT release the first single “GHOST LEGS” from their highly anticipated Debut EP. After hypnotizing crowds with their lush and dynamic debut Single ‘Beautiful Kingdom’, Dreamcoat continue to develop their blend of Alternative Pop and Psych-Folk on this EP featuring “Ghost Legs” as just the tip of the iceberg. “Ghost Legs’ taps into the human condition of absolute confoundedness and focuses on presenting a bookended experience to the listener in this torn state of mind. From the beginning we’re subjected to what seems to be on a superficial level, an Indie Pop tune, but we’re soon taken far beyond that, with Kieran Ebert’s lyrical content tearing rapaciously at our thoughts in what is too close & at arms reach for all of us. The chorus of Ghost Legs however juxtaposes this dejected plight with a frightfully catchy and confectionary melody, forcing us to see the beauty in the aforementioned “human condition.” Then there’s the superimposition of time signatures in which propels us back into the initial condition the lyrics impose on us. The climax of the song illustrates Dreamcoat’s forte of dynamic shift, crescendoing into an almost Post-Rock style pinnacle, with the vocals relaying the chorus line “You will be the last mistake I make.”
The DREAMCOAT EP (out later in 2015) is almost a concept record, with a string of 5 songs that draw on the same thematic material in the lyrics but also the music itself. We hear a myriad of influences in this release, ranging from Grizzly Bear, Local Natives and the intricate parts of Radiohead. The sounds these boys create are lush guitar blankets, ethereal moments of trance like bliss, which you’re soon knocked out of by the change to an odd time groove, then back into cordial and subtle verses with killer choruses. A smashing debut that will be released in mid-late 2015, keep your ears ready for this one.
Dreamcoat started in late 2014 with 4 young like minded musicians: Kieran Ebert (Vox, Guitar), Brayden McDonald (Guitar, Keys), Costa Hagi (Bass) and Owen Luby (Drums) writing pop songs tainted with their love affair with the technical and complex. They released their debut single “Beautiful Kingdom” in late 2014 after playing a sold out first show at The Grace Darling Hotel. They soon teamed up with Blank Tape Music on working towards achieving the band goals in 2015, and have been working diligently ever since on producing this 5 track EP to be released in the coming months.
The John Curtain Hotel hosts the release of ‘Ghost Legs’ on the 31st of July 2015, it’s sure to be a night of beautiful Alternative Pop.
“There is a dynamic shift in “Beautiful Kingdom” with ambience created through the slow paced bridges of dreamy guitar strums and gentle percussion which then gradually builds into a more layered and explosive arrangement, further strengthened by the vocals of Kieran Ebert.” – Bridget Hustwaite, The AU Review.
